Does french toast remind anyone else of breakfast in bed? Sun peeking through the curtains, the smell of coffee and bacon cooking in the kitchen. The pitter-patter of little feet trying to balance an oversized tray, giggling while trying to sneak into your room. Nope. That’s never happened here, what about you? I’m more of an up early before anyone else can wake up, spend hours in my own head with my coffee and plan my next adventure kind of morning. The thought of eating in bed stresses me out, (thanks Mom) but it was a solid intro, right?
When you make this iconic breakfast food, it’ll be hard not to eat the whole batch. Golden toast, crispy edges, sweet syrup and even sweeter toppings. Simple yet spectacular, it will even impress the girls at your next brunch. The variations are endless and it’s simple enough that you can whip it up in less than 20 minutes.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Beat together egg, milk, spices and vanilla in a medium bowl, big enough to fit a slice of bread.
- Heat a lightly oiled griddle, skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
- Dunk each slice of bread into the egg mix, soaking both sides. Place in your preheated pan and book on both sides until golden.
Notes
- Try with easy Spiced Syrup: Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon to 1 cup pancake syrup; stir well to mix. Try heating it up and serving warm!
- Top with any fruit you have on hand - I love strawberries, bananas, blueberries or raspberries
- A dusting of powdered sugar won't hurt either
- Freeze leftovers stacked, or individually in a zip-lock bag. Reheat in the toaster to keep those crispy edges!
